I always knew that color played an important part of my life. Mainly, it affects my mood, which impacts my day and how I interact with other people, which can have an impact on other people's moods, which can come around and impact me again. Okay, maybe I'm being a bit dramatic. BUT, COLOR IS IMPORTANT.
So, now that I know color is important, I wanted to discover how color has impacted my jewelry making process.
When I first started making jewelry, I paid more attention to the gemstones I was using and what their properties meant or what they were used for in the world of natural healing. This was great when I was purchasing new stones and beads. When I started up-cycling materials, I couldn't be sure what types of stones I was using. Many stones are similar and unless I study to become a gemologist, I would never know. For instance, I have a heck of time telling the difference between some types of Lapis Lazuli and Sodalite.
I realized it wasn't the type of stone that spoke to me, but it was the color.
I started researching the meaning of colors and came across this website called Color Meanings by Jacob Olesen, https://www.color-meanings.com/. For a quick reference, check out the color symbolism chart provided on this website located at the end of this blog that was provided by Jacob Olesen. This chart was a a great starting point. A person can really get lost in this research as all colors have different hues and are made up of different portions of other colors. The different hues can represent different meanings and influence you in different ways.
As I was researching and then updating my product descriptions on my website, I discovered that the color combinations I used appeared not to be a coincidence. Mainly, because I don't believe in coincidences and that everything happens for a reason. The color combinations I have used happened for a reason and it wasn't just because it pleased me.
I am now exploring those reasons with each piece of jewelry I've made and am providing that insight which each product description on my website.
I plan to write more on this blog as I learn the importance of each color and will share it with you. Please check back often as I continue to add my thoughts on color to this blog.
Be Unique, Be You!
